A Credit System for the Formative Assessment

Eligible Candidates: Undergraduate Medical School in Clinical Years
Test Structure: 50 Single Best Answer items, that cover FOUR major specialties: Medicine – Surgery – Gyn/Obst. – Pediatrics
Test Duration: 90 minutes (1½ hours)
Credits Calculation:
The academic learning time includes the following:
1- Teacher-Directed Learning (learning time with teachers and trainers): Not Applicable.
2- Self-Directed Learning proposed for the test:
36 real-time hours = 2,160 real-time minutes
Propose 50 real-time minutes = ONE contact hour
Then, 2,160 real-time minutes = 43.2 contact hours
Option1: according to American Credit System: One credit = 15 contact hours
Then 43.2 contact hours = 2.88 credits (43.2/15)
Option 2: according to the European Credit System (ECTS): One credit = 25-30 contact hours
Then 43.2 contact hours = 1.728 credits (43.2/25)
3- Test:
1½ real-time hours = 90 real-time minutes
Propose 50 real-time minutes = ONE contact hour
Then, 90 real-time minutes = 1.8 contact hours
Propose ONE credit = ONE contact hour (of the test)
Then, 1.8 contact hours = 1.8 credits
Therefore, total number of credits of the test equals:
Option1: 2.88 + 1.8 = 4.68 credits = 4.75 credits (rounded to the nearest quarter)
Option 2: 1.728 + 1.8 = 3.528 credits = 3.5 credits (rounded to the nearest quarter)
